Adhesive Sponge Rubber Neoprene Tape is a form of closed cell rubber tape that is both very economical and versatile. This tape has a peel-off adhesive on one side and can be easily stuck in place on most types of surfaces and materials. When it’s compressed (by just 10%) this tape will form a water tight seal that is very long lasting.
Based on Neoprene rubber, this tape is an excellent option for sealing around things like windows, doors or joins in metal with narrow sealing faces and little compression. It is flame retardant and able to be used indoors or outdoors. Being a Neoprene based rubber sponge tape, it also has excellent resistance to oil, weather and ozone.
Depending on who you ask, this type of tape can go by a number of different names. These include generic terms like weather-strip and sponge rubber tape through to more precise names like Closed Cell Sponge Rubber, Chloroprene Sponge Tape and Adhesive Backed Neoprene Sponge. No matter the name used, this tape has a number of uses.

If you are looking for a tape to seal around a metal join, we really suggest having a look at our "Sealing a Garden Shed with Adhesive Neoprene Foam Tape" blog post. In this we detail an application where we needed to stop water leaking in between the wall and concrete floor of a garden shed and how we used Neoprene Sponge Tape to solve the problem with no bonding, drilling, cutting or dismantling of the shed.
Is this tape adhesive backed on both sides?
No, just the one.
How much force will need to be put on it before it compresses?
Not a great deal. You’ll be able to achieve the 10% minimum requirement for water tightness with just your fingers.
Do I need any special tools to cut it?
Not at all. A decent pair of scissors or a box cutter will do the trick nicely.
What does peel-off adhesive mean?
It refers to an adhesive that also has a release liner in place. Put another way, the adhesive sits between the tape on one side and a white liner on the other. You remove (peel off) this white liner to expose the adhesive and stick it and the rubber tape down.
Is this the same as Neoprene Foam Tape?
Yes. In our experience we have found that sponge and foam are used pretty much interchangably when describing this tape. That said, there are many different kinds of sponge or foam rubber tape out there. Each grade and style if different.

The size I used was 19mm thick by 35mm wide, and I used it in the following applications. . As a door seal in my steel shed . To prevent water ingress between the lower edge of the shed steel wall & the concrete base . To provide a flexible/secure mounting pad between the steel shed corrugated wall & the downpipe mounting. The product is easy to use & can be cut to length using domestic scissors or a craft knife.
