Designed to meet the demands of the most extreme heat, Refrasil Rope is a high temperature, thermal insulation cord which can withstand continuous exposure to 982°C (1,800°F). Manufactured from high purity silica fibres, this rope has a braided construction and has a high density coupled with good abrasion resistance and ease of handling.

Manufactured by Hitco Carbon Composites in the USA, this insulating rope is used for lagging and sealing in all kinds of demanding applications. More information on its capabilities and features are included below;

Excellent Heat Resistance.

Refrasil Rope is made from high purity silica textiles (<96% SiO2). These refractory fibres are designed for use in extreme temperatures up to 982°C. They will continue to insulate and inhibit heat transfer at anything up to this temperature and are extremely durable.

High Density Rope for Heat Resistant Rope Gaskets and Door Seals.

By far, the most common application we see for our Refrasil Rope is the insulation of oven, stove, boiler or furnace doors. Its braided construction allows it to compress while still creating an effective seal while its heat resistance makes it suitable for use in almost all industrial-grade devices.

Refrasil Rope is often selected over Ceramic Rope for these applications because of its superior density and physical strength. Exact density and strength ratings vary depending on the size and are summarised in the table below.

Low Shrinkage, Easy to Handle and Abrasion Resistant.

The dimensionally controlled silica fibres used in the manufacture of Refrasil Rope ensures it exhibits very low rates of shrinkage at high temperatures. This is critical for many sealing (and even some lagging) applications. Once again, shrinkage varies (slightly) depending on size as summarised below.

In addition to being a low shrink heat resistant cord, Refrasil rope is very easy to handle and extremely durable. The silica yarns used in its construction are treated with a hydrocarbon finish which improves the ropes abrasion resistance and makes it easy to install.
