  • Versatile, heat resistant material made from quality fibreglass cloth coated in red silicone rubber.
  • Rubber surface ensures good sealing performance, reduced irritation and less chance of catching.
  • Fibreglass cloth enhances the heat insulation properties and provides good mechanical strength.
  • Flexible material that can be used for a large variety of thermal protection and insulation jobs.

Our Red Silicone Coated Fibreglass Cloth is made from a high-quality grade of thick, woven fibreglass that is coated on both sides with a solid layer of high temperature silicone rubber. This hybrid material couples good sealing properties, heat resistance and workability into one.

The characteristics and benefits of our Silicone Coated Fibreglass Insulation Cloth include:

Excellent Thermal Insulation Performance.

This heat resistant material has two maximum temperature ratings:

  • 230°C for the Silicone Coating.
  • 540°C for the Fibreglass Insulation Cloth.

Both materials have good insulation properties and low thermal conductivity. The fibreglass is an excellent heat insulator that absorbs heat.

Good Mechanical Strength.

The fibreglass cloth used in the construction of this material is a plain weave cloth manufactured in the USA. Both thicknesses have very good physical strength, though the exact specifics differ and are listed below:

  1.6mm  3.2mm
Fabric Weight (Average) 1,190 gm/m² (avg.) 2,175 gm/m² (avg.)
Fabric Thickness 1.5mm 2.7mm
Warp Strength 53.7 kg / 25.4mm 53.7 kg / 25.4mm
Fill Strength 44.7 kg / 25.4mm 53.7 kg / 25.4mm

Once the silicone coating is added, the fibreglass cloth continues to provide excellent strength and serve as a reinforcement to limit stretch and reduce the potential for tearing. The result is a highly resilient material that can be subjected to mechanical stress.

The silicone rubber coating used on our Sil Coated Fibreglass has excellent resistance to abrasion. Since it full covers the fibreglass, it also serves to line the cloth to prevent objects catching.

Silicone Coated Fibreglass Cloth has very good sunlight resistance and is weather-proof. The silicone coating ensures this cloth is also water-proof and it has excellent anti-ageing properties for long lasting performance.

Good Chemical & Media Resistance.

This heat insulation material has excellent resistance to most common chemicals and fluids. Known exceptions include Hydrofluoric & Hot Phosphoric Acid as well as Wet Hydrogen Chloride.

Silicone Coated Fibreglass is often used for making high temperature gaskets and seals because of its compatibility with most media.

Easy to cut, fabricate and work with.

Our Red, Double-Sided Silicone Coated Fibreglass Cloth is produced using high quality components. The base fibreglass fabric is heat treated which removes any loose fibres and then coated on both sides with the heat resistant silicone elastomer. This then cures to form a rubberised fibreglass material which maintains excellent flexibility.

Since the fibreglass surfaces is fully encapsulated by the silicone (only the edges are exposed), the chances of skin irritation are significantly reduced. This silicone rubber coating also reduces the chances of snagging, tearing or fraying.

Our Red Silicone Coated Fibreglass can be accurately cut, punched or even sewn using heavy duty threads and equipment. It is partially for this reason that it is often selected as an outer layer insulation material in high temperature bellows, expansion joins, insulation jackets, pipe wraps or thermal curtains.

Typical Applications for Silicone Coated Fibreglass Cloth.

This versatile material is used extensively in many different industries and sectors. Some of the more popular uses include:

  • Expansion Joints.
  • Bellows and Ductwork Connectors.
  • Removable or Permanent Insulation Jackets and Covers.
  • As a Welding Drop Cloth.
  • Fire Blankets.
  • Fire Doors and Curtains.
  • Steam Pipe Insulation.
  • High Temperature Pipe Lagging.
  • Flange and Valve Covers.
  • Pump Covers.
  • High Temperature Gaskets and Seals.
  • For Protective Barriers and Heat Shields.
