Weiconlock AN 305-72 Liquid Gasket, Pipe Sealant and Thread Locker is an incredibly versatile type of one-part anaerobic adhesive. This grade can be used to make formed-in-place, liquid gaskets or as a thread locker or pipe sealant. It contains PTFE and has an immediate sealing effect. This means that even though curing (and therefore adhesion) will take time, it will seal straight after assembly.
When used as a thread locker, for sealing cylindrical assemblies or to seal and bond close fitting metallic pipes, AN 305-72 can handle objects up to M80 in diameter. This is in part thanks to its high viscosity which means it doesn’t run. It also makes accurate application easier to reduce wastage.
If it is used to make formed-in-place liquid gaskets, Weiconlock AN 305-72 Liquid Gasket, Pipe Sealant and Thread Locker is able to be handle gaps up to 0.4mm while still bonding. This makes it a good option for sealing close fitting flange connections like those found on motor housings or compressors. In these situations it can replace thin fibre, cork or rubber gaskets. Once again, on these often complex shapes, the fact it has a high viscosity helps as it lets you be quite deliberate in where you apply the adhesive and stops it running before you can assemble the flanges.
Made in Germany, Weiconlock AN 305-72 Liquid Gasket, Pipe Sealant and Thread Locker is a high quality grade of anaerobic adhesive. It has been tested and certified by DVGW for use as a sealant and adhesive for gas lines as well as, locally, by the Australian Gas Association (AGA) for the same application.
Weiconlock AN 305-72 Liquid Gasket, Pipe Sealant and Thread Locker is white in colour and cures with medium strength. Handling strength for parts bonded with this adhesive will be achieved in about 20-40 minutes at room temperature while full cure will take 5-10 hours. Once cured, this grade will withstand ongoing exposure to temperatures between -60°C and +150°C.
- Sealing and locking threaded pipes, bolts and fittings up to M80
- Permanent bonding and sealing of (semi) close fitting metallic pipe connections
- Sealing gas lines, pipes and connections (AGA and DVGW certified)
- Making formed-in-place liquid gaskets for gearboxes and compressor housings
- Sealing or motor and pump housings
- Sealing all kinds of metallic, close fitting flanges and assemblies
- As a replacement for thin cork, fibre or metal cut gaskets
- General thread locking and sealing jobs
What do I have to do to prepare the surfaces?
Clean and dry as much as possible. Weiconlock grades will work on slightly oily surfaces but adhesion will be improved on parts that have been cleaned and degreased.
Can is use Weiconlock AN 305-72 with plastic flanges?
Not by itself. As an anaerobic adhesive this grade relies on contact with metal and the absence of air to trigger curing. There is a workaround though. If you use Weiconlock Activator on the plastic parts first this will allow you to secure them with AN 305-72.
How long does it take to cure?
Full cure is expected to take about 5-10 hours at room temperature. The large range quoted here is a reflection of two things; the difference in what room temperature can mean and the fact that Weiconlock AN 302-72 will take slightly longer to cure on some surfaces than others.
All that being said, handling strength is achieved far faster. This will take about 20-40 minutes.
It is also important to remember that this grade seals immediately. Adhesive bonds will take time to develop but the sealing effect is immediate.
What’s its pot life?
Virtually unlimited. As an anaerobic adhesive, AN 305-72 only begins to cure when it is in contact with metal and deprived of air. That means as long as the bottle is open, no curing will occur.
It also means that great care should be taken to ensure that you don’t accidently allow any metal shards or filings to find their way into the bottle. Once the lid is back on, even the smallest amount of metal will cause the whole bottle to set.
How do I store it?
None of the Weiconlock grades needs to be kept in any kind of special storage. Just try and keep them somewhere that doesn’t get direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Room temperature is fine.
