  • Aluminium filled epoxy repair putty that can be mixed, shaped and applied by hand before setting hard.
  • Simple to use: just cut, knead by hand and stick. No tools required.
  • Excellent adhesion, non-rusting and long lasting. Perfect for patching aluminium parts, gap filling, sealing leaks and more general repair work.

Weicon Aluminium Repair stick is a quick and easy to use solution for making lasting, non-rusting repairs to metal parts. It’s designed for filling holes, cracks and leaks in all kinds of metal components. It adheres particularly well to aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper, steel and other metals, though it also bonds to wood, ceramics, stone and many plastics. It does not stick well to rubber elastomers.

Aluminium Repair Stick is dead-simple to use; just cut off the amount you want, mix by hand and apply. Once cured, this aluminium filled epoxy repair putty is aluminium-grey in colour and will withstand temperatures between -50°C and +120°C. Aluminium Repair Stick will not rust and can be tapped, drilled and sanded after it’s hardened.

This simple yet versatile epoxy putty has a variety of benefits which have led to its use all over the world. Just some of them include:

No Tools Required.

Like all our Repair Putties, Aluminium Repair Stick does not require any tools (unless you count a pair of rubber gloves). Just cut off the amount you want, knead the two parts until they’re a single colour and apply.

That’s it. Aluminium Repair Stick will set hard (like metal).

Can be modified and machined once it’s set.

Fully cured Aluminium Repair Sticks have a hardness rating of 75 Shore D. To put that in perspective, most hard hats measure about 80 Shore D. The fact it sets this hard means you can machine this putty once it’s cured. More specifically, Aluminium Repair Stick can be…

  • Sanded
  • Tapped
  • Drilled
  • Filed

This lets you finish your repair job down to tight tolerances of give the putty an ultra-smooth finish. Since it’s aluminium coloured, it also provides a pathway to minimising the visibility of any repair work.

Can be painted over.

Since it’s an epoxy, Aluminium Repair Stick can be painted once it’s fully cured.

Fast Curing

Speaking of curing, Aluminium Repair Stick sets quite quickly. Assuming fairly normal working conditions (20°C and 50% relative humidity), you can expect cure times to be about…

  • 35% Cured (Handling Strength) – 10 Minutes
  • 50% Cured (Mechanical Strength) – 1 Hour
  • 100% Cured (Full Strength) – 24 Hours.

These times are all based on about 25 grams of putty. If you mix more, cure times will be accelerated due to the nature of epoxy curing (exothermic reaction). Similarly, if you are working in warmer conditions, cure times will be accelerated.

Good Temperature & Chemical Resistance.

Once cured, Aluminium Repair Sticks have very good heat resistance and the ability to withstand attack from many different types of chemicals.

This epoxy putty handles continuous exposure to temperatures between -50°C and +120°C as well as short-term spikes up to 150°C (short-term being defined as less than 2 hours at a time).

On the chemical resistance front, Aluminium Repair Stick is resistant to many common fluids and media; including…

  • Salt and Fresh Water
  • Diesel Fuel Oil
  • Heating Oil
  • Petrol
  • Chlorinated Water
  • Greases, Oils and Waxes

This is just a small sample of the full chemical resistance table. More information on this repair putties capabilities are included on our Aluminium Repair Stick Tech Data Sheet.

Sticks to a variety of different materials (especially metals).

For all the most common uses of Aluminium Repair Stick, it needs to stick to a surface to work. You can rely on this epoxy putty to do so as it has excellent compatibility with a variety of different surface types. These include:

  • Aluminium
  • Stainless Steel
  • Steel
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Other types of metal.

In addition, it also sticks well to other materials like wood, ceramic, stone, glass and many plastics. One thing it doesn’t bond well to is rubber so that should be avoided.

To get the best adhesion possible, we recommended giving the bonding surface a good clean before applying the putty. If you’re sticking to a really smooth surface, adhesion will be enhanced by roughening the bonding surface a bit first.

Electrical Insulation Properties.

For some applications, it’s important to only use compounds that have good dielectric strength. Since it’s based on filled epoxy, Aluminium Repair Stick has good electrical properties. It has a dielectric strength rating of 3 kV/mm (tested in accordance with ASTM D149) and an electrical resistance rating of 5 · 1011 Ω/cm (ASTM D257).

Applications for Aluminium Repair Sticks

Aluminium Repair Stick is used in many different industries around the world. It is often used for repairs in the marine, automotive and transport sector but is also popular for engineering, facilities maintenance and repair work around the home and office. Some specific application examples include:

  • Repairs, hole patching and reconditioning of fuel and water tanks
  • Repairs to gearboxes
  • Sealing, fixing and patching heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment
  • Repairs to car and boat bodies
  • Metal machinery and tool repairs
  • Fixing leaks on pipes and tanks
  • Fixing window frames and doors
  • Repair, crack filling, hole filling and the recondition of components
  • Model building
  • Repairs to metals, plastics, ceramic surfaces, glass, stone, bricks, wood and more.

What can I do to make it stick better?

There’s a couple of things. First, make sure you’re using the best type of repair stick for the material you’re sticking too. After that, the two highest impact options are making sure that the surface you’re bonding to is clean and free of grease is very, very important.

Secondly, if the surface is quite smooth (e.g. polished metal) and you can, the bonding power of the repair stick will be improved if you can roughen the bonding surface a little (e.g. sand it). This increases the amount of surface area the repair stick has available to bond to resulting in greater adhesion.

Can it be painted?

Yes. Once fully cured Weicon Aluminium Repair Stick will be able to be painted.

How long does it take to set?

This depends on the conditions its being used in a bit. Epoxies cure at different speeds depending on how much you’re using (the bigger the amount, the faster the cure) and the temperature you’re using them in (hotter = faster).

Assuming a relatively average use of say 25gms of Aluminium Repair Stick at about 20°C, you can expect the following:

Pot Life (how long you have to use in once it’s mixed): 4 Minutes

35% Strength (known as handling strength as it’s bonded here): 10 Minutes

50% Strength (known as mechanical strength): 1 Hour

100% Strength (fully cured): 24 Hours

Aluminium Repair Stick Adhesion Compatibility with Various Material Types

Metal (e.g. stainless steel, brass, cast iron, aluminium) Highly Compatible
Hard Plastics* (e.g. epoxy laminates, rigid PVC) Compatible
Wood (e.g. oak, beech, spruce, balsa) Compatible
Derived Timber Products (e.g. plywood, MDF) Compatible
Fibre Reinforced Materials (e.g. GFRP, CFRP, Fibreglass) Compatible
Glass, Ceramics Compatible
Stone (e.g. granite, brick, concrete, marble) Compatible
Rubber Elastomers Not Compatible

*Performance will vary depending on the exact type of plastic being bonded. Generally, low surface energy plastics will be much harder to bond to then high surface energy (such as rigid PVC).
