Teflon Sheets are some of the most versatile materials in existence.

They combine unparalleled non-stick properties with outstanding chemical resistance and very good temperature tolerance. It's no wonder they are used for a whole host of different applications and are available in a range of styles.

In this article, we cover some of the more common uses for this type of engineering plastic. We also present the types and sizes available from our online store and how to arrange custom cut PTFE parts.

But first, we explain the difference between PTFE and Teflon.

Teflon - A Registered Trademark of Chemours (Formerly DuPont).

Polytetrafluoroethylene, more commonly known as PTFE is a type of plastic. It was actually discovered by accident back in 1938 by Roy J. Plunkett while for DuPont. Over the next few years, potential applications for it were found and the Teflon trademark was registered in 1945.

In the decades since, more and more applications were found for Teflon and today, the base polymer (PTFE) is manufactured by many different companies around the world where it is used for everything from coating fry pans to making gaskets and seals for extremely aggressive chemicals.

The products listed on our website are generally not Teflon. They are PTFE as they are not manufactured by Chemours. Where this is not the case, we'll mention it in the description.

If you are interested in a more detailed history of Teflon's development, we suggest having a look at Chemours website.

Swift Supplies Online PTFE Sheet Range.

We are pleased to offer a wide range of PTFE sheet materials. There's a few different types available on our website. What's listed below is a short overview of each.

Virgin PTFE Sheets.

Virgin PTFE is the most common and widely used form of PTFE sheet. It is available in a huge range of sizes.

We are pleased to offer what might be Australia's largest online range of Virgin PTFE Sheeting. We break up our range a couple of different ways. First, we organise them by how they are made (skived or moulded). Our skived sheet is thinner and available in either cut sheets or by the metre. Moulded sheets are thicker and are only available in flat sheet, not by the metre. The links below cover our current online range of Virgin PTFE Sheet.

PTFE Glass Cloth Flexible Fabrics.

Smooth, flexible and very versatile. This type of PTFE cloth consists of a thin layer of fibreglass that is coated on both sides with a layer of PTFE. The result is a non-stick, heat resistant fabric with a whole host of uses. Stocked in a variety of thicknesses and in both adhesive backed (one side) and non-adhesive styles. All are available by the metre.

Uses for PTFE Sheets.

A non-stick, low friction, chemically inert plastic with good temperature resistance has a lot of uses. Just some of the applications we supply PTFE for include:

  • As an electrical insulation material (usually PTFE Glass Cloth).
  • Oven liners.
  • As a reusable release film for laminating presses.
  • Chemical resistant curtains & protective barriers.
  • As a non-stick surface for paints, adhesive and food Products.
  • Thermal Insulation for high temperature and Chemical Intensive Applications.
  • Jacket for flanges, valves, pumps and other equipment.
  • Slide bearings.
  • For making high temperature, chemical resistant washers and gaskets.
  • For the manufacture of chemical resistant seals for pumps and valves.
  • The manufacture of cryogenic seals and parts.
  • Piston rings, glide rings and back-up rings.
  • As a thermal insulation material for electronics, HVAC and industrial equipment.

These really are just some of the applications. We skipped many. If you would like to discuss your individual requirements or get some assistance in working out which type of PTFE sheet would be right for you, please do contact us
