Our Abrasion Resistant Silica Cloth is a premium high-temperature fabric designed for applications requiring excellent thermal protection combined with greater resistance to mechanical wear.

Manufactured from continuous filament silica fibres containing a minimum of 96% SiO₂, the woven base cloth provides exceptional high-temperature performance while remaining flexible enough to wrap, fold, cut and fabricate into a wide variety of thermal protection components.

What sets this material apart from standard silica cloth is its durable red abrasion-resistant surface coating. This provides additional mechanical protection to the underlying silica fabric, helping improve its durability and service life in applications where the cloth may be subjected to rubbing, handling or other forms of mechanical wear. The distinctive red finish also improves visibility and handling during fabrication and installation.

High Temperature Protection up to 1000°C

Abrasion Resistant Silica Cloth is designed for some of the most demanding high-temperature environments encountered in industrial maintenance, fabrication and thermal insulation.

The silica fibre base is rated for continuous exposure to temperatures up to 1000°C, with a melting point of approximately 1650°C. Its specified minimum operating temperature is -40°C.

This gives the material considerably greater temperature capability than conventional fibreglass fabrics and many coated industrial textiles, while retaining the flexibility needed for blankets, curtains, wraps and fabricated insulation systems.

Abrasion Resistant Coating for Improved Durability

High-temperature fabrics are frequently exposed to more than heat alone.

Repeated handling, movement against equipment, installation and removal, vibration and contact with surrounding components can gradually damage an uncoated woven fabric.

The specialised red abrasion-resistant coating provides an additional protective surface over the silica cloth, improving resistance to this type of mechanical wear. This makes the cloth particularly attractive for reusable thermal protection components and installations where the material will be regularly handled rather than simply installed and left untouched.

Flexible & Easy to Fabricate

Despite its high-temperature capability, Abrasion Resistant Silica Cloth remains a flexible woven textile.

It can be cut and fabricated into shapes suitable for equipment protection, thermal barriers and insulation systems. High-silica fabrics are also commonly used as the base material for sewn blankets, curtains and other fabricated thermal protection products.

This combination of flexibility and thermal performance allows the material to protect irregularly shaped equipment and areas where rigid insulation products would be impractical.

Available Sizes

Our Abrasion Resistant Silica Cloth is stocked in two thicknesses: 0.75mm and 1.3mm.

Both are 914mm wide. 

Both thicknesses are sold by the lineal metre, allowing you to purchase the quantity required rather than an entire roll.

Multiple metres ordered will be supplied as one continuous length wherever possible, up to the maximum standard roll length of 50 metres.
