  • Available in 3mm or 6mm thick by the metre (cut pieces, felt strips and more available upon request).

Our Nomex® Aramid Felt offers a cutting-edge solution for various industrial applications requiring heat resistance and durability. Crafted from non-woven, needled aramid fibres, this untreated felt is known for its low to medium density and can sustain continuous operations at temperatures up to 220°C. It’s a non-toxic material that won't melt and is designed to not support combustion, ensuring safety and efficiency in demanding environments.

Typical Applications

Primarily used in the electrical industry, Nomex® Aramid Felt is essential for manufacturing and repairing transformers, motors, generators, turbines, and other electrical apparatus. It is ideal for:

  • Coil pads and form coil blocking
  • Padding for steel surge rings
  • Void filling in Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) systems or Trickle Impregnation systems

This felt often serves as an excellent high-temperature replacement for wool felts and is effective as filters and filter bags for particulate removal in flue gases.

Thermal Stability and Chemical Compatability

Nomex® retains its electrical and mechanical properties effectively up to 200°C, with useful properties maintained, even under higher temperatures for extended periods. It demonstrates exceptional resistance against most solvents, acids, and alkalis, although strong acids and bases can cause degradation.

Compatible with all classes of varnishes, adhesives, transformer fluids, lubricating oils, and refrigerants, it is resistant to insects, fungi, and mold due to its indigestible nature.

Flame Resistance

Nomex® employs a three-fold mechanism to protect against extreme heat:

  1. Heat absorption from incoming sources.
  2. Fibre expansion under heat, enhancing the fill of gaps.
  3. Increased insulating properties through thickening and absorption.
